Biblical Manhood and Womanhood

New Equipping Class Starting in September!

There is growing confusion on the biblical teaching of manhood and womanhood. Outside the church, schools, the media, and governments are redefining gender and sex. Our children are being taught that they have the right to choose their gender and sexual orientation. From within the church, there is a growing call to reinterpret Scripture to make the biblical teaching on manhood and womanhood more acceptable and modern.

What do we do? How do we respond? How do we prepare our children? We turn to Scripture. We look to the Bible and grow in our understanding of God’s design for men and women, sexuality, gender, marriage, etc. We remind ourselves that our God designed men and women in his image to bring glory to himself through the distinct roles that he gave each.

The purpose of this class is to look at a biblical theology of manhood and womanhood. That means we start in Genesis and proceed through to Revelation and study how God defines what it means to be a man and woman. We desire to let Scripture interpret Scripture versus allowing our 21st century culture to determine the meaning of individual verses.

We are calling all men and women who are attending Redeemer (members and non-members both) to join us in studying all of Scripture to learn together how God defines the roles and responsibilities of men and women and why he defines them the way he does. Please join us for six weeks (spread out over four months) as we walk through the Bible and marvel at God’s grand design for manhood and womanhood.

Why is it so important for you to join this class?

If you continue to hold to the biblical view of manhood, womanhood, marriage and parenting, at some point you will face persecution. You will come under attack. This is not a surprise. Jesus warns us that we will be hated for following him and living for him because we are not of this world. So we need to be prepared.

The Bible is a story, an amazing story. By studying this story together we can grow in our understanding of God and see clearly the timeless truths regarding manhood and womanhood. We will see that we should expect attacks to come on our marriages and our families. We will also learn how to resist and stand firm in the faith that has been given to us.

Paul David Tripp calls this prepared spontaneity. He writes:

“Now, I know it sounds like a contradiction, but it isn’t. You actually can be prepared for things that you don’t yet know you will face. You can be ready for things that you had no idea would come your way. In fact, I am persuaded that this is one of the main functions of Scripture. It enables us to be prepared to decide, think, desire, act, and speak well in a world in which we aren’t sovereign. Here’s how it works: if we have taken in what the Bible says about God, ourselves, life, sin, and the surrounding world, we are ready to deal spontaneously with things we didn’t know we would be dealing with” (Tripp, Marriage, pg. 23).

It isn’t an accident that we live and work in this broken world. God is using this time to sanctify us and call others to himself. Join with us and let’s build one another up and be equipped for the work that God has called us to do.
